Strong Foundations

Strong Foundations at Moss Lane School

At Moss Lane School, we believe that every child should feel known, valued and inspired to learn. Our Early Years and Key Stage One team provides a nurturing, language-rich environment where children develop secure foundations for learning alongside a strong sense of belonging. Through purposeful play, high-quality interactions and carefully planned experiences, we support every child to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Our approach is informed by the key principles identified in Ofsted's ‘Strong Foundations in the First Years of School’ research review. We recognise that children's early experiences provide the building blocks for future success and that strong foundations are developed through high-quality interactions, rich language experiences, secure relationships, effective curriculum design and a focus on children's personal, social and emotional development.

This overview, together with the accompanying booklet, provides a clear insight into our approach across the key strands of Belonging, Oracy, Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Health and Physical Development, Learning Behaviours, Executive Function, English Mastery (Reading and Writing), Maths Mastery and Transitions. These interconnected areas reflect our commitment to ensuring that every child develops the knowledge, skills, vocabulary and dispositions needed to flourish both in school and beyond.

Each section outlines what children experience at Moss Lane and how our curriculum, teaching and wider provision work together to help every child achieve their full potential. We are committed to developing confident, resilient learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need for future success.

We value the strong partnerships we build with families, governors and the wider community, recognising that children achieve best when we work together. If you would like to learn more about our provision, visit the school, or discuss any aspect of your child's learning and development, please do not hesitate to get in touch—we are always happy to help.

This version mirrors the themes Ofsted highlights: relationships, communication and language, curriculum, self-regulation/executive function, physical development, and transitions, making the connection clear to governors, inspectors and parents.
