Books for Worries and Anxieties

It has been an unusual and unpredictable year and this has inevitably had an impact on many of us causing us to have worries and anxieties. Children are no exception to this and it is vital that we help them to deal with any concerns in a healthy way in order to protect their emotional health.

We would like to share with you some lovely children’s books that we recommend for helping you talk to your child about worries and anxieties.

Huge Bag of Worries

Wherever Jenny goes, her worries follow her - in a big blue bag. They are there when she goes swimming, when she is watching TV, and even when she is in the lavatory. Jenny decides they will have to go. But who can help her?

Don't Worry Hugless Douglass

Douglas' dad gives him a wonderful new woolly hat and he races outside to show it off. In his excitement, he doesn't realise that it is unraveling... His friends have helpful but useless ideas of how to put things right and it is left to the little bear to work out for himself the best thing to do…

What to Do When You Worry Too Much

This is an interactive self-help book designed to guide 6- 12 year olds and their parents through the cognitive behavioral techniques most often used in the treatment of generalized anxiety. Engaging, encouraging, and easy to follow, this book educates, motivates, and empowers children to work towards change. It includes a note to parents by psychologist and author Dawn Huebner, PhD.

I'm Worried

Describing the emotion of anxiety, as it is experienced by young children, this book attempts to offer various solutions. It is part of a series to help children deal with emotions they experience in their everyday lives. Also includes notes for teachers and parents.
