Governor Profiles

Elaine Joyce, Chair
After moving to the area in 2012, to get involved in my new community, I put my name on the National Governor Association website as a potential co-opted governor at a local school and was directed to Moss Lane School. I thoroughly enjoy the role of supporting and challenging the school to bet the best it can be for all our children so that they have a very positive start to their formal education. I am a grandmother to four children, three of whom have benefited from being at Moss Lane.

Adam Boshoff

Since arriving from Cape Town, South Africa in 2002, where I graduated as an Interior Architectural Designer, I have truly made Surrey my home.  As an Estate Agent, I have worked in the local area for over 10 years and offer a wealth of knowledge from both the property and building industries.  When not engrossed in the world of property, I can be found cooking up a storm in the kitchen, transfixed by a game of rugby or spending time with my wife Samantha and two daughters, Grace and Abigail.

Aaron Twaits

My family and I relocated to Godalming in 2015 to set roots and begin our children’s education. We spent much of the prior decade living in Singapore and Japan where I worked in Banking. Weather aside, it didn’t take long to settle in and learn to love Godalming, the community and particular the local school which my son Freddie attends. Moss Lane is a wonderful school and now being so pivotal to my family life, I want to be as involved as I can be. I hope with a background in finance and business I complement the existing strong governing team and can add a little something new here and there.

Victoria Abbott

My name is Victoria Abbott, and I am delighted to be the Headteacher of our school.  I have lived in the local area for about ten years and joined Moss Lane in January 2011. When I first visited the school I was taken by the friendly children and happy atmosphere which continues to this day.

As a Headteacher, I have a few guiding principles which I wish to share with you:
My office door is always open!
If parents and carers have issues or concerns, I am always happy to listen and to help. If I am unavailable at the time, I am more than happy for parents and carers to book appointments to see me via the school office.

I expect excellence!

Our children only get one attempt at school and at Moss Lane we intend to give them the best education we possibly can. My aim is for our children to make great progress. As a school we work in partnership with the governing body, making changes to our provision, to make this happen.

Outside of work I am a wife and mummy to a little girl. I spend most of my time playing with her and enjoying long relaxing walks in the countryside with our mad basset hound Jeffery!  I also enjoy horses, watching movies, and going out for dinner.

Moss Lane is the first school that is close to where I live.  I now fully appreciate what being part of a community really means and feel privileged to work in a school that is at the heart of the community.  I believe that a school can have a huge influence on not only a child's life but also on the lives of parents and the local community.  I love being a part of Moss Lane School and look forward to taking it to new heights, working in partnership with you all, for the benefit of our children.

Carol Edmans

I moved to the area in 2010 and I am delighted to be joining the governing body of Moss Lane School. I am keen to play a full part in supporting the school to provide a happy, safe and successful place to learn and to contribute to the community. I have worked in Central Government for over 25 years in various managerial roles and will use this experience to benefit the school.

Steven Turnbull

I was born in Lancashire and moved to London to study Modern History at University. Since graduating I have spent 30 years working for the Ministry of Justice. I have held various posts including Court Manager, Head of Business Change and my current role of Business Relationship Manager on a multi million pound Technology Transition Programme. I have lived in Surrey for the last 15 years, and near Godalming since 2010. I believe that good education from an early age is essential and am pleased to be able to support Moss Lane School as one of its Governors.

Nicola Riley

I live in Godalming with my husband, three children and two cats.  I currently work at the Conrad London St James hotel as Human Resources Manager, and have worked in HR in various London hotels for over 12 years.  Moss Lane holds a very special place in my heart.  Two of my children attended, and I also worked there as Bursar for four years prior to returning to a career in HR.  It is an honour to be able to stay connected and be involved with the school through being a governor.  When not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, I attempt to do some yoga (badly) and I love going on holiday!

Laura Edmends

I am currently a member of staff and work in the office at Moss Lane School which I really enjoy. I have 3 boys, one of which has been through Moss Lane, one at Moss Lane and one hopefully to come in 2020. Before moving to Moss Lane I was an Operations Manager for a large events company. I was brought up in Godalming until the age of 8 when my parents jobs took us travelling so I feel by moving back to the area and working at the school I have come full circle. I am proud to be a member of staff and now a Governor.
